About Bunny Island

I started this site in 2024 on a whim, at a point when I needed a distraction - something familiar and challenging all wrapped up in pretty, minimal Neocities packaging. Creating my own island here has been a low-stakes, casual way to get back into coding silly little websites after a long hiatus, and this place has reignited my love for it!

The site is an island for rabbits, obviously. That's about as far into the lore as I've got, however! But the idea for it is loosely based on the real life bunny island, Okunoshima Island, Japan. I also just really love bunnies.

The various buildings on the island are all looked after by the peaceful rabbits that reside here. I am passionate about a lot of things, and aim to fill this site with all of them. Perhaps you can find something here on Bunny Island that interests you - or find your way to something else that does through my Boats in the harbour.

Either way, I hope you have a good visit! I aim to provide useful guides, useful links, fun reviews and writing, and a bunch of illustrations hand crafted by yours truly. Leave me a message in the guestbook if you like, I'd love to hear from you!

About Me

I work in the creative sector and that day job takes up most of my time. However unlikely it would be, if you recognise my work, hey! I make this site as a way to escape from the expectations of web 2.0 online 'presence'.

I first started designing websites when I was a kid, in the late 90s at the turn of the millenium.

My first one was a little harry potter shrine!
I think it was hosted on geocities and I'd created it using microsoft word on the family computer. My main memory of it was that I'd hand-drawn all the book covers on MSPaint with the uncomfortable beige mouse. Even though there were only 3 books released at this time, drawing them took forever!

As a teen in the early 2000s, I loved 'surfing the web', and would spend hours reading through personal websites, absorbing their advice, fanfics, artwork and reading about niche interests. It wasn't all a perfect utopia back then. Neocities captures a rose tinted view of how the internet was - but I love that about it.

I may write more about this topic, as I'm currently really interested in the future of the internet and technology in general. It definitely feels like we are in the midst of a great change, but we cannot see what that change will look like until after the storm subsides.
